1/4" plywood door backing

1/4" Thick Plywood Backing

1/4" plywood backing is a standard option for most bookcase doors, except the Alpha Doors

Strength:

1/4" backing offers no extra strength or durability. 1/4" backing is the only option our competitors offer.

Weight:

1/4" backing is lightweight compared to other options

Lead Time Needed: No extra lead time is necessary, stocked item.

3/4" Thick Plywood Backing

Included with:

3/4" plywood backing is an upgradable option for most bookcase doors. Alpha Door backing comes standard with 3/4" backing for extra strength.

Strength:

3/4" backing provides extra strength and durability, it also provides extra security because it is impossible to kick through.

Weight:

3/4" backing is heavier and adds an average of 50lbs to a door

Lead Time Needed: No extra lead time is necessary, stocked item.

Price:

3/4" plywood is an upgradable option on most bookcase doors (except Alpha Doors), this option will add a minimum of $100

to your order (depending on size and type of door).

1/4" Thick Tempered See-Through Mirror Backing

Upgradable Option on all doors:

1/4" thick one-way mirror is an upgradable option exclusive to Hide-A-Way Doors and available on all doors, bookcases & mirror doors.

Strength:

One-way mirror glass is tempered and super strong, does not shatter

Weight:

1/4" Tempered mirror adds a considerable amount of weight, 75-100 lbs depending on size.

Lead Time Needed: This is a custom ordered feature that adds 7 to 14 days to all orders including rush orders. Rush order guarantees start when the glass is received.

Pricing: Because each glass has to be custom made for your door and tempered, see-though mirror option adds a considerable amount to the cost of your door, roughly $400-$600 depending on type and size of your door.

How does it work?

During manufacturing, a very thin sheet of metal is applied to the glass, so thin it is almost transparent; one side of the sheet has reflecting properties

How-Two-Way-Mirrors-Work-1024x683_edited.jpg

In order for the one-way mirror glass to work properly, the

secret side of the door has to remain dark, or dimmer. See-

through mirror works best when the reflecting side of the glass is brightly lit.

Crown Molding

Used With: All bookcase doors, not available on mirror doors

Specs: Total Height 3-1/2" tall, crown molding is attached to the top header and shipped unattached. The crown is mounted

after install.

Using your trim on our doors

When designing the Hide-A-Way Door we had to take into account the amount of space needed for the bookcase to be able to swing within the opening and how the bookcase door shuts on the back of the case molding trim. The doors were specifically designed with our trim boards in mind.

The question, "Can we use our trim on your doors" comes up frequently. The answer is that we simply do not know. There are so many different types of trim, sizes, and thicknesses that it is a nearly impossible question to answer. When a customer is interested in using their own trim, we ask them to place a note in the customer comment section of the order form that reads, "Please leave trim unattached." We will take our trim and cust it to size and ship it to you without attaching it to your door, that way if you try your trim and it doesn't work with our door you can at least use our trim.
